71 crews in LOTOS 71st Rally Poland

18 junho 2014

Seventy-one crews have sent their entry to the organisers of LOTOS 71st Rally Poland.
The factory teams of Volkswagen (Sébastien Ogier and Jari-Matti Latvala), Citroën (Kris Meeke and Mads Østberg), M-Sport (Mikko Hirvonen and Elfyn Evans) and Hyundai (Thierry Neuville and Juho Hanninen) will compete over 24 special stages in Poland and Lithuania.
There will be a total of 15 WRC cars, including entries for Robert Kubica Michal Solowow and Krzysztof Holowczyc from Poland. Andreas Mikkelsen, Hayden Paddon, Martin Prokop and Henning Solberg will also take their seats in WRC cars.
The magnificent 15 will fight for the outright victory and the leading positions in the rally. The Polish classic stages are unknown to the majority of the drivers and only a few have competed in previous years on the Masurian gravel. Among those are Hirvonen - the winner in 2009 - Latvala, Meeke and Solberg. Large changes have been made to the rally route, including the introduction of five entirely new timed tests and that means that all crews will start compiling pace notes from a clean sheet of paper.
Drives and co-drivers from 36 countries grave the entry list. Not surprisingly, Poland accounts for 23 and there are 12 French entries and 11 from Great Britain. There are 10 representatives from Finland and Spain, while Lithuania is represented by three crews. European competitors dominate the entry list, but Australia, Argentina, Chile, Kuwait, Lebanon, New Zealand, Peru and the United Arab Emirates are also represented.
Fords have been chosen by 39 crews and Citroën (15) are the most two popular brands, but the attention of fans will also focus on three factory-prepared VW Polo R WRCs, and a trio of Hyundai i20 WRCs.
Poland’s leading three drivers will drive Ford Fiesta RS WRCs. For Kubica, it will be the seventh start behind the wheel of this car, for Solowow his fifth and the experienced Holowczyc opts for a Ford Fiesta for the first time in his career.
LOTOS 71st Rally Poland is also a round of the WRC2, JWRC and also becomes the arena for the fight for victory in the Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy. The first series brings 17 entries and there are 12 in both the second and third of the championships.
LOTOS 71st Rally Poland is the seventh round of the FIA World Rally Championship and will be held on June 26-29, 2014 in Poland and Lithuania. In a total route of 1,676km, competitive gravel stages will total 362km around Mikolajki and Druskininkai. The start and finish of the event will be in Mikolajki.
