Notwithstanding the disappointment of being unable to supply ready-homologated examples of the Citroen and Peugeot R5 cars in time for Rallye Automobile Monte Carlo (16-18 January), it has been confirmed that both cars will be homologated on 1st March.
One driver who has been involved in the development of both cars is the new Citroen Total Abu Dhabi World Rally Team driver Kris Meeke, who seen at the wheel of the Peugeot 208 T16 prototype in June 2013 in Ypres.
He has had an ongoing testing activity with both models.
How do those two cars compare with each other?
“It’s a bit early to say. Obviously there are some components quite similar on both cars, but basically the chassis are both different, the Citroen has a different wheelbase and certain other things. We never actually tested both cars on the same road so it is very difficult to make a true representation on how they compare in action.”
“Remembering that when they are carrying more or less 80% of the same components the differences are going to be marginal. The PSA Group never homologate a car that is not going to be a winner and never release a car until they’re happy. You can rest assured that when both cars are homologated they are going to be ready to win rallies.”
