Lappi slips to fifth place after time penalty

Finland’s Esapekka Lappi has slipped from fourth to fifth overall in the final results of the Rally of Portugal after incurring a 10-second time penalty for displacing one of the three dividing bales on the third roundabout on the ninth stage in Porto on Saturday night.

The Toyota Yaris WRC driver was suffering from a broken damper at the time and the team argued that no advantage was to be gained from the incident.

Ironically, Dani Sordo was the main beneficiary and was elevated to fourth place after being penalised himself for clipping bales on the same stage.
