Keen-eyed rally fans might think they have spotted an error on the entry list for the 2016 Vodafone Rally de Portugal; the family name ‘Solberg’ appears twice.
This doesn’t mark the return of former WRC champion Petter but rather, his older brother Henning and his son, Oscar, who is making his WRC debut in the Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy.
The 20-year old will be tackling the event as the opening round of the 2016 DDFT and is looking to gain as much experience as possible, having watched videos of last year’s event and received useful guidance from Pontus Tideland.
Solberg Senior will also be taking part in the event, as the only driver who also contested the Rally de Portugal when it ran in the north of the country in its previous guise.
In 2000, Henning drove a Ford Escort WRC but went off the road, failing to finish. The following year, he was at the wheel of a Toyota Corolla WRC but again, failed to finish, this time stuck in the deep mud following torrential rain.
He was also supposed to contest the rally in 2015 but was forced to pull out at the last minute.
