Volkswagen driver Jari-Matti Latvala marked the fastest time in the shakedown, the final test prior to the start of the ADAC Rallye Deutschland.
At the 4.4 kilometres long track near Konz, Finnish driver Latvala set a fastest time of 2:20.8 minutes and ranked ahead of his team-mate, reigning world champion Sébastien Ogier (2:21.3 min.) and Andreas Mikkelsen (2:21.9 min.), also driving for Volkswagen.
Citroën driver Kris Meeke (2:22.5 min.) and Hyundai's Dani Sordo (2:23.0 min.) followed in fourth and fifth place.
Thierry Neuville, who finished second last year, had bad luck. The Belgian came off the road and barrel-rolled his car. He and co-driver Nicolas Gilsoul escaped unscathed. The team tries to repair the damaged World Rally Car for the start on Friday morning.
